MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the Human Resources Department is to provide professional human resources services to support departments in accomplishing the City's mission and promoting workforce development.

CITY ORGANIZATION

Incorporated in 1867, Rocky Mount, North Carolina is ideally situated in scenic eastern North Carolina, approximately 60 miles east of Raleigh, the state's capital and 100 miles west of the Atlantic Ocean. The City presently occupies approximately 35.57 square miles and its population of 57,150 makes it the eleventh largest city in North Carolina. With a rich heritage in agriculture, textiles and railroading, Rocky Mount has expanded its economic base to include manufacturing and has become a regional center for retail services.

The City of Rocky Mount is a full-service municipality operating under a Council-Manager form of government that has been in place since 1927. The City Council is the elected body of government and includes a Mayor and Council members representing seven wards.

The City Manager, appointed by the Council, is responsible for the effective management of all operations and administrative functions of the City. The City Manager and his leadership team oversee eleven departments with a diverse workforce of 850 full-time employees. Rocky Mount employees take pride in delivering professional, customer-centered services in the traditional areas of public safety, engineering, planning, streets maintenance, & solid waste collection.
